Third Graders Visit Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial

By Mrs. Thorp

Today we  continued our trip through Washington D.C.  We visited the Washington Monument and climbed over 800 steps to the top.  We learned that it is the tallest building in Washington D.C. and that it is surrounded by 50 flags for the 50 states.

The Lincoln Memorial was built to honor Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president.  The memorial had 36 columns, one for each state at the time Lincoln was president.
